In an interview with ANC, PGH Spokesperson Dr. Jonas del Rosario said 21 cases of the Delta variant were either tested or admitted and tested at the state-run hospital.

Seven of them were admitted at the PGH in which one died in the intensive care unit, five were already discharged, and one still recovering.

Meanwhile, one patient also died in the emergency room.

"We have five healthcare workers who tested positive for the Delta, all of them were fully vaccinated. The good news is they all manifested mild symptoms, so they were not hospitalized, they were not critically ill, nobody died," Del Rosario said.

"In terms of what the vaccines supposed to do, it was supposed to protect us from severe disease, seems to be doing that," he added.

Del Rosario noted that the two Delta-positive patients who died were unvaccinated.

"We shouldn't be loosing off and say, you will get infected even if you're vaccinated. The more important thing to know is the disease gets modified to a milder form, so in a way, that protects you from getting hospitalized and dying from the disease if you get vaccinated."

The Philippines has so far recorded 119 cases of the Delta variant.

Of the number, 103 have recovered, four have died, while 12 are still active cases.
