MMC thanks DOTr, DPWH for Metro Manila Bike Lane Network

The Metro Manila Council headed by Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez thanked the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for the construction of the Metro Manila Bike Lane Network.

Olivarez, together with San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora, thanked Transportation Sec. Arthur Tugade and DPWH Sec. Mark Villar during the inauguration of the Metro Manila Bike Lane Network on July 27.

He said the construction of the specific bike lane will help cycling enthusiasts erase their fear of encountering an accident.

The mayor said during the surge of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, the MMC, composed of 17 Metro Manila mayors, had been discussing the construction of a bike lane in their respective areas for the safety of cyclists who use their bikes as an alternative mode of transportation.

Olivarez said bicycle riding does not only promote health and leisure but also provide an alternative solution to mitigate the shortage of available mass transportation because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In Parañaque City, he said, a bike lane was constructed in October last year along the stretch of Dr. A. Santos Avenue going to the Ninoy Aquino Road and was designed with blue road markings and signages in accordance with international standards.
