Roque to undergo medical checkup before deciding on 2022 run

Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said he was planning to undergo a thorough physical examination by September this year to see if he was healthy enough to pursue his botched Senate bid.

In an interview with Super Radyo DZBB, Roque revealed his plan of undergoing a medical examination to have his health checked.

"Ako po ay magpapa-schedule ng thorough physical check-up bago po dumating ang buwan ng Setyembre at para nga po malaman kung ano talaga ang estado natin (I will schedule a thorough physical check-up before the month of September to see what really is my health condition)," he said.

He added that he will first see what the result of his check-up would be before making a decision.

"Titingnan po muna natin iyan. Ayaw ko na po munang umasa (Let's see first. I don't want to get my hopes up)," Roque said.

"Noong minsan tayo po ay umaasa, eh hindi naman pupuwede dahil sa ating medical condition ‘no. So pinagdadasal po natin iyan at titingnan po natin kung ano ang sasabihin ng mga doktor (The last time I wished to run, my medical condition didn't allow me. So I will be praying for what the assessment of my doctor would be)," he added.

In an interview with ANC last month, Roque said he would have to have a serious talk with his doctors about his health before he decides if he will run in the 2022 elections.

"My biggest worry is my health. The last time I filed, I had health issues and I had to withdraw. So I really need to have a serious talk with my doctors and an honest-to-goodness assessment if I’m up for it," he said.

Roque was first appointed as presidential spokesman in October 2017 until he resigned the following year to run for Senate in 2019. He, however, had to withdraw his candidacy in February 2019 after undergoing a “percutaneous coronary intervention following the discovery of an unstable angina coronary disease.”
