Man, 60, robbed, killed in Cagayan


BAGGAO, Cagayan – A 60-year-old man was robbed of P200,000 then killed in his house in Zone 1, Barangay Adaoag here Friday, July 23.

Police identified the victim as Reynante Jose.

Local police investigation showed five armed men wearing bonnets suddenly barged in his house at around 10 p.m. when the victim opened the door due to the incessant barking of his dog.

One of them aimed his handgun at Jose while the victim's live-in partner, Norma Empleo, and grandson, John Carlo Calibuyot, were roused from their sleep.

A suspect dragged Norma inside the victim's room and asked for the money. The suspects then fled with cash amounting to P200,000.

She later discovered Jose’s body with severe head injuries caused by a blunt object, possibly from a wooden grater recovered at the crime scene, according to Police Senior Master Sgt. Leo M. Pascua, case officer.

Police here are now conducting follow-up investigation and hot pursuit operations for the possible apprehension of the suspects.
