BREAKING: Cris Nievarez crashes out of medal contention in men's single sculls

Rower Cris Nievarez failed to advance to the semifinal medal round after finishing fifth in his quarterfinal group in the men’s single sculls in the Tokyo Olympics on Sunday, July 25 at the Sea Forest Waterway.

Nievarez, 21, clocked 7 minutes and 50.74 seconds behind group winner Oliver Ziedler of Germany (7:12.75), Luca Verthein Ferreira of Brazil (7:14.26) and Mindaugas Griskonis of Lithuania (7:16.71).

New Zealand’s Jordan Parry came in fourth with 7:18.48 while Iraq’s Mohammed Al Khafaji came in behind Nievarez at sixth with 8:03.55.

Only the Top 3 finishers in the group will advance to the semifinal medal round.

Nievarez will still compete in the semifinal C and D for rankings.
