Arellano University's Carl Jaedrianne Ancheta claimed a semifinal berth as he defeated Jose Rizal University's Avel Louise Baldovia in the quarterfinal round of the online chess seniors division in the 96th NCAA Season last Saturday, July 24.
Ancheta joined College of St. Benilde's Adrian Othniel Yulo and University of Perpetual Help System DALTA’s Carl Zirex Sato in the Final Four to be played Monday.
The games are televised on GTV channel 11 of GMA-7, the NCAA’s new broadcast partner.
Lyceum of the Philippines University's Neymark Digno and Mapua's John Paolo Gaspar Medina are set to collide Sunday in a virtual match for the remaining spot in the semifinal.
Sato first clinched the top four slots by beating Nel Miranda of season host Letran at the start of the quarterfinals.
Yulo then defeated John Michael Magpily in an all-Blazers showdown.
Games in the eliminations and the Round of 16 were played for 10 minutes only while each player had 15 minutes for the semifinals and the battle for third. The final match will give 20 minutes to each competitor.
