Agri losses due to 'Fabian' reach P12.38M


Agricultural losses left by the onslaught of typhoon Fabian reached P12.38 million, the Department of Agriculture (DA) said on Saturday, July 24.

Based on the department's latest assessment, the agricultural damage affected 885 farmers.

The losses covered 906 hectares of agricultural areas in Central Luzon, CALABARZON and Western Visayas. This translates to 228 metric tons of production loss.

Affected commodities include rice, corn, high value crops and livestock.

The department said they are continuously monitoring the actual field situation for possible damage incurred in crops, livestock, and fisheries.

Meanwhile, a total of 104,471 bags of rice seeds; 11,390 bags of corn seeds, and 1,949 kgs of assorted vegetables were prepositioned for affected farmers.

Affected farmers and fisherfolk will also be provided access to Quick Response Fund (QRF) for the rehabilitation of affected areas; drugs and biologics for livestock and poultry needs; Survival and Recovery (SURE) Loan Program of Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC); and available funds from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) to indemnify affected farmers.
