TACLOBAN CITY – In an effort to increase the vaccination turnout in their municipalities, local government units have devised ways to encourage their constituents to get inoculated with coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccines.
In Naval, Biliran, residents are not only getting discounts whenever they purchase food or dine at restaurants.
Fully vaccinated residents have the chance to win pigs, cows, and a brand new motorcycle in a raffle under the "Biyaya sa Bakuna" program of the local government.
Although their raffle draw is still in December, Mayor Gerard Espina said the program has increased the number of people who are getting their COVID-19 jabs.
In Caibiran, also in Biliran, Mayor Rhodessa Delante-Revita said since they will not be able to celebrate their annual town fiesta just like before the pandemic, they will still be celebrating a virtual fiesta with a twist in honor of Señor Santiago.
All fully vaccinated individuals have the chance to win a piglet, a sack of rice, a grocery pack worth P1,500, and cash for minor prizes.
She added that winners will be announced via Facebook Live on July 24 (Saturday) to avoid gathering crowds.
