Benguet cops praised for helping farmers plant potatoes

A group of policemen from Benguet is now being praised in social media for helping farmers plant potatoes while the cops were on combat uniform.

Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), expressed gratitude to the personnel of the Buguias Municipal Police Station in Benguet for the display of good feed that he said would help convince the people that policemen are not enemies.

“They were supposed to be doing regular beat patrols but could not help but to extend their assistance to the farmers in need of their help,” said Eleazar.

The policemen were were conducting mobile patrol operations when they saw farmers of Sitio Salingao in Barangay Buyacaoan rushing to plant potatoes and racing to finish the task before heavy rain fell.

The policemen, noticing the urgency of the farmers to finish planting the potatoes, did not hesitate to stop and help the farmers so they could quickly complete the task.

“Just like what they did, the Philippine National Police has plenty of good stories to tell, even if the assistance they render is beyond their call of duty,” said Eleazar.

The PNP has already awarded a number of policemen for various goods deeds—from policemen helping deliver babies and breastfeeding babies to cops donating blood to people in need of transfusion.
