Online petition opposing P23-B Dumaguete reclamation project launched

CEBU CITY – An online petition opposing the 174-hectare reclamation project in Dumaguete City has been launched.

Silliman University launched the petition through its Facebook page where it urged “all Sillimanians to get informed of this project and to form their own views of it.”

The university said it opposes the building of island structures stretching across Dumaguete’s shorelines from Barangays Bantayan to Banilad; the city’s signing of a Joint Venture Agreement of the project and from making the project to go any further.

The university said the proposed P23-billion project should only push through “unless and until a public consultation on its technical, ecological, social and economic merits and its potential cultural and financial costs, risks and consequences to Dumaguete residents shall have been done.”
