For an official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), the May 2022 polls will be an election like no other.

In an online town hall forum on Thursday, July 8, Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon cited the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic as one reason for this.

"This will be an election like no other because we are facing a pandemic," said Guanzon.

"The method of campaign will have to change. There will be a lot of reliance on social media campaign platforms," she added.

Guanzon said it will also be an election like no other because the country will be electing a president.

"It's going to be a hotly contested election because in the last election, the country, the voters, the people were polarized...the method of campaign even through FB or Twitter was fierce," she said.

"It's not heating up yet because it's not yet the filing of COC, but you will see it by August," added Guanzon.

The Comelec has set the filing of COC for the May 2022 polls from October 1 to 8.
