Mayor Carla Galvez-Tan was found positive for COVID-19 on March 17. Last week, the mayor said she experienced mild symptoms of COVID-19 and had herself tested which yielded a positive result.

The mayor immediately posted her condition on her official Facebook page. She said she would undergo treatment while undergoing 14 to 20 days of home quarantine.

Galvez-Tan said she was careful and health-conscious but her immune system gave in to stress, overwork, and lack of sleep.

"Well, as of now, I’m okay, no worries," Galvez-Tan said.

The mayor urged those she came in close contact with to observe themselves for COVID-19 symptoms and to undergo 7-14 days quarantine.

The municipal health office has started conducting contact tracing with the mayor's close contacts with some of them already having undergone swab testing based on Tan's directive.

The mayor's office will be closed starting Monday to give way to thorough disinfection. A skeleton workforce scheme will be implemented.

Aside from Mayor Galvez-Tan, other town chief executives in Bulacan who contracted COVID-19 were Mayors Ferdie Estrella of Baliuag, Vergel Meneses of Bulakan, Jose Santiago of Bocaue, Eladio Gonzales Jr. of Balagtas, and Russel Pleyto of Santa Maria.

Governor Daniel R. Fernando, Bulacan First District Representative Jose Antonio R. Sy-Alvarado, and 4th District Representative Henry Villarica were also infected with COVID-19 last year.
