One-day drug sting nets P27-M haul in Central Visayas


CEBU CITY – Police in Central Visayas came up with a P27-million drug haul in a 24-hour simultaneous anti-criminality operations.

The Synchronized Enhanced Managing Police Operations (SEMPO) started at 12:01 a.m. of June 26 and ended at 12:01 a.m. of June 27 in which P27.8 million worth of illegal drugs were seized.

“The one-day operation was in line with the directive of our Chief PNP, Police General Guillermo Eleazar, that our police should be active in cleansing the community of all forms of criminality,” said Police Brig. Gen. Ronnie Montejo, chief of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO 7).

A total of 134 anti-illegal drug operations were conducted region-wide that saw the arrests of 177 drug personalities, some of whom were considered high-value individuals, Montejo said.

Seized were 1,165.5 grams of shabu with an estimated Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) value of P7,874,876.

Ecstacy pills, a known party drugs, worth P17,500 were also recovered.

At least 50,000 stalks of marijuana plants valued at P20,000,000 were also uprooted.

A total of 112 anti-illegal gambling operations were also conducted that led to the arrests of 212 persons and confiscation of P19,323 cash.

In the campaign against loose firearms, 221 operations were conducted, leading to the seizure of 289 firearms and two explosives.

At least 155 wanted persons were also arrested during the period.

“Our latest SEMPO showed a high accomplishment rate. It just proves that we are serious in our mandate to protect the people in Central Visayas. We are also thanking the public for their cooperation in the fight against criminality,” said Montejo.
