CEBU CITY – A 25-year-old man was arrested for alleged unauthorized selling of Chinese medicines believed to cure COVID-19 here.

The suspect Matthew Louis Christopher Ngo Po was arrested in a buy-bust operation conducted by operatives of the Regional Special Operations Group (RSOG) Friday afternoon, June 25, in Barangay Apas.

Boxes of Lianhua Qingwen Jiaonang with an estimated value of P200,000 were recovered from Po.

Although approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the China-made medicine can only be bought with a doctor’s prescription.

Aside from the Chinese medicines, Lungene rapid test kits were also recovered from the man.

Police Major Glenn Hife, chief of the RSOG 7 (Central Visayas), said they started monitoring Po after they were tipped off that he was selling the medicines online.

Hife said they transacted with Po and ordered the medicines worth P200,000 from him. The poseur-buyer was told to pick up the medicines in his house where he was eventually arrested.
