Amok in MPD headquarters: 2 dead, 1 wounded


A drunk policeman was shot dead after he ran amuck inside the Manila Police District (MPD) main headquarters in Ermita, Manila, killing a fellow cop and wounding another on Friday night (June 25).

The suspect, Police Executive Master Sgt. Reynante Dipasupil, 46, assigned to the District Police Intelligence Operations Unit (DPIOU) of the MPD, was declared dead at 12:46 a.m. Saturday due to bullet wounds in different parts of the body.

A police report showed that Dipasupil, who was under the influence of liquor, appeared at their office at about 11:30 p.m. and indiscriminately fired a gun, hitting the offices inside the MPD Headquarters on United Nations Avenue in Ermita.

Policemen on duty immediately responded and exchanged fire with the suspect.

Dipasupil hit and wounded Police Staff Sgt. Reynaldo Cordova. He then fled towards the gate.

While trying to escape, the suspect was met by Police Master Sgt. Romeo O. Cantal and Police Staff Sgt. Ferdinand Francia. A shootout ensued, wounding Dipasupil and Cantal.

Suspect Dipasupil was brought to the Manila Doctors Hospital where he was declared dead.

Cordova and Cantal were brought to the Manila Medical Center. However, Cantal died at around 3:10 a.m. Saturday while undergoing operation.

Meanwhile, Cordova is now out of danger, police said.

MPD director Brig. Gen. Leo Francisco has ordered his men to investigate the incident and assured full assistance to the victims.

The MPD Headquarters was placed under full alert status while the investigation was ongoing.

According to the MPD, all station commanders were also advised to monitor the welfare and mental health of their men after the incident.
