The country’s judiciary, led by the Supreme Court (SC), joined the entire country in mourning the passing of former President Benigno S. Aquino III.

In a statement, Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo said: “We will remember him as the President who did his best to serve the Filipinos tirelessly with dedication.”

“To honor the late President, I have ordered that the Philippine flag be flown at half-mast in all court houses in the country in grateful recognition for his services to the nation,” Gesmundo said.

There are still three incumbent SC justices who were appointees of the late former President Aquino.

They are Senior Associate Justice Estela M. Perlas Bernabe and Associate Justices Marvic M.V. F. Leonen and Alfredo Benjamin S. Caquia. They have paid tribute and expressed condolences to the former President and his family in their individual statements.
