CBCP ECSA-JP hopes Cardinal Advincula will be a discerning voice to guide Filipinos


It is the hope of the Episcopal Commission on Social Action, Justice and Peace of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines that Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula will be a "discerning voice to guide the Filipinos especially on socio-political issues."

The CBCP ECSA-JP through Caritas Philippines is also praying that the head of the central church in the country, we also pray that he will provide a bolder stance on the ecology advocacies and actions of the church, especially on divestment.

This is aside from actively promoting justice and peace through inclusive dialogue.

"As he steps in amidst the many challenges being faced by our church and nation, we express our solidarity with him and pray for his good health," said CBCP ECSA-JP in a statement on Thursday, June 24.

Pope Francis named Advincula as the Archbishop of Manila on March 25.

His appointment came almost four months after he was created cardinal along with 12 others on Nov. 28 last year.

Advincula replaced Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, who was appointed as Prefect of the Vatican’s Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.

Cardinal Advincula was formally installed as the 33rd Archbishop of Manila, Thursday at the Manila Cathedral in Intramuros.
