The BTS Meal, a collaboration between K-pop superstars BTS and McDonald’s, has sold more than one million sets in nearly a month in South Korea.

McDonald’s Korea told Korean media that the BTS Meal has racked up more than 1.2 million orders since its release in Korea on May 27 up to June 21, or 26 days, or an average of 46,154 sets sold per day.

It said this was the first time that a set consisting of only a side menu without a burger has sold over a million orders in a short period of time.

In addition, the average daily sales of Chicken McNuggets, a part of the BTS Meal, increased by 250 percent compared to the average daily sales in the last four weeks before the release of the meal in Korea.

The BTS Meal consists of a 10-piece Chicken McNuggets, medium World Famous Fries, medium Coca-Cola, and Sweet Chili and Cajun sauces and is sold for 5,900 won ($5.21) in South Korea.

McDonald’s Korea revealed that the sales of Oreo McFlurry, liked by BTS member V but not included in the BTS Meal, surged by 45 percent from May 27 to June 3, the Economist Korea reported.

The report added that the Sweet Chili and Cajun sauces were developed by McDonald’s Korea. The Cajun sauce was developed while McDonald’s Korea was testing a new sauce that would go well with McDonald’s different side dishes and has a spicy taste that Korean customers like.

In the Philippines, BTS Meal, launched last June 18, is sold for P270 ($5.56).

Margot Torres, head of marketing of McDonald’s Philippines, told Manila Bulletin in an interview last June 23 that the BTS Meal sold close to a million orders in the Philippines in just five days from June 18 to 22. This translates to nearly 200,000 BTS Meals sold per day.

“If I count the number of pieces of McNuggets, that is about 3.5 million McNuggets sold on just launch day. And then we have a lot of stores that sold over 1,000 BTS Meals on launch day. And the best part is we also saw a lift in our other products like Chicken McDo,” she said.

She added, “It’s record-breaking for the day, even the weekend, in terms of store sales since the pandemic.”
