BAGUIO CITY – Ninety-eight police trainees from the Philippine Public Safety College of the Police Training Institute, Cordillera Administrative Regional Training Center (CARTC) at Teacher's Camp here tested positive for COVID-19.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong here was informed by the city health department which sent a letter to Police Lt. Col. Miguel Guzman, training officer, to immediately suspend all activities, trainings, and events at the training camp.

Magalong said the suspension of activities gives way to the conduct of contact tracing and isolation and quarantine protocols of all affected persons.

He instructed the center's safety officer to coordinate with the contact tracing team here to determine all personnel who should undergo testing, isolation, and quarantine.

Magalong also told the training officer to secure the ingress and egress of the center to ensure the containment of the virus.

He recommended the closure of CARTC until such time that they have determined that the premises are safe for the resumption of operations.

Guzman claimed that there is no negligence on their part regarding the 98 police trainees who were found to be infected with the virus.

He said that due to an honest mistake which was not elaborated by one of students who went to the Baguio City Triage Center for antigen testing and turned positive for the virus, they were prompted to conduct contact tracing where they found out that many of the students were infected.
