San Beda rules juniors speed kicking event

San Beda University claimed three gold medals as it dominated the juniors' division of the online taekwondo speed kicking competition in the NCAA Season 96 on Monday, June 21.

Louell Mamaclay, Philip Joshua Lee and Ignatius Vicente Lorenzo Pinera each captured a gold medal in their respective categories following the event televised on GTV channel of GMA, the league’s new broadcast partner.

Mamaclay ruled the light middleweight division as he finished with 6.500 points, beating Emilio Aguinaldo College's John Cris Samson (6.458) and Javier Macasaet of CSB-LSGH (6.383).

Lee won the gold medal in the lightweight with 7.083 points to beat Emilio Aguinaldo College bets Leigh Cyril Aslarona of (6.108) and Aubrey Gacilos (5.942), who settled for silver and bronze.

Pinera won gold in the bantamweight division with 6.750 points over Dirk Ranque of Lyceum of the Philippines University (6.483) and Letran's LeBron James Alemania (6.200).

The Taytay-based school added two silvers courtesy of Reymundo Calamba III and Jian Alden Jose Arceo in the flyweight and heavyweight categories, while bronze medals came from welterweight Seth Nathaniel Go and featherweight Marlex Mercado.

CSB-LSGH finished second in the standings behind San Beda with two gold medals courtesy of Victor Emmanuel Rodriguez in the welterweight) and Raphael Ongkiko in the middleweight. Light middleweight Javier Dexter Macasaet provided the Greenies' bronze medal.

Letran's Luke Morel (featherweight), LPU's John Patrick Moneda (flyweight) and Arellano University's Joshua Lyndon Dionio (heavyweight) also won gold medals in the four-day tournament.

Meanwhile, the speed kicking competition in the senior’s category will begin Tuesday with the men's division, which will last until June 29, while the women's side will be played on June 30 to July 5.
