Gordon in search of running mate for 2022 presidential elections

Senator Richard Gordon on Friday said he is looking for a vice presidential running mate for the upcoming May 2022 elections.

Gordon, who is considering running for president in 2022, disclosed he is already mulling the possibility of pairing up with a vice presidential candidate should he decide to run in the presidential race.

“Of course, I will definitely (look for one),” Gordon said in an interview on ANC’s Headstart.

“There are people trying to negotiate certain things right now among my group and seeing if that would be a better chance for us if we have somebody who will run that is acceptable to the public,” he added.

“I think, in terms of whoever my vice president will be, like last time. I have Bayani Fernando,” Gordon said, pointing to the former Marikina city mayor and former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chief.

“Why? We’re both good leaders, we’re both no-nonsense. We are both implementers. If I win, he can succeed me and he can continue (what I started),” the senator said.

Gordon, who currently heads the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), earlier said he is one of the most qualified to seek the presidency in 2022.

But while he is still pondering whether or not he would join the presidential race, the former Olongapo City mayor said he is ready for the task.

“If you ask me, I’m qualified. I think I can do it, I can assume that position and I can make it work, “ Gordon had said.
