Woman dies in Navotas City fire


One person died during a fire that broke out at a residential area in Riverside, Brgy. San Rafael Village (SRV), Navotas City Friday morning.

According to a statement of Navotas City Mayor Toby Tiangco, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) identified the victim as Madel Santos, 46.

The BFP Public Information Office said the fire reached 1st alarm at around 7:38 a.m. and 2nd alarm at 7:46 a.m.

Firefighters declared the blaze under control at 8:38 p.m. and extinguished it at 9:03 a.m.

Around 169 families were affected by the fire.

The estimated damage to property was placed at P100,000.

According to the BFP, the fire was caused by children who were reportedly playing with a matchstick or lighter.

Individuals affected by the fire are now staying at SRV Elementary School.

The Social Welfare Office of the city government already coordinated with the barangay and will provide blankets, mats, and other essential items to the affected residents.
