Arteche, Eastern Samar Mayor Evardone catches COVID

MAYOR Evardone
TACLOBAN CITY – Mayor Roland Boie Evardone of Arteche, Eastern Samar confirmed Friday, June 18, that he has been infected with COVID-19.

He is the seventh local chief executive in Eastern Visayas to have contracted the disease.

The Arteche mayor, whose uncle is Eastern Samar Gov. Ben Evardone, said he started experiencing symptoms last June 7, which he thought was just ordinary flu because he felt better after two days.

He tested non-reactive last June 11 when he submitted himself to a rapid test. However, two of his family members also experienced the same symptoms, which prompted them to undergo an RT-PCR test.

Evardone, who has been in isolation since June 7, appealed to those who may have had close contact with him to submit themselves to contact tracing, especially those who are asymptomatic.

"Thank God and for the vaccine, I am no longer feeling any symptoms," he said.

Arteche has been placed under Modified General Community Quarantine until June 30.

As of Friday, June 18, Eastern Visayas has logged 359 fresh cases and one death, bringing the total COVID-19 cases to 25,824 and 356 deaths.
