Award-winning British-Iranian journalist and television host Christiane Amanpour has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer as she called on women to educate themselves on this type of disease.

Amanpour, 63,  chief international anchor for CNN, has been away for four weeks from the popular cable news network.

When she came back on June 14, she revealed she's battling ovarian cancer.

"Get all the regular screenings and scans that you can," Amanpour said in a video. "Always listen to your bodies and of course … ensure that your legitimate medical concerns are not dismissed or diminished," she added.

Amanpour hosts the CNN International and PBS's nightly global affairs program.
