Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto called out some “Dilawan groups” for misusing his old statement in a Facebook post that made him appear negatively commenting on the “endorsement” of Pres. Duterte for the presidential bid of his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.
“#FAKENEWS] Maaaring totoo ang quote, pero last year pa at HINDI presidential elections ang topic!! Misquoted ng ibang Dilawan group para sumakto sa naratibo nila.. kaso lang, naniwala ang iilang supporters ng Presidente at kaya nagalit (The quote is true, but it was given last year and the topic was not presidential elections! Some Dilawan groups misquoted me to fit their narrative, but some supporter of President Duterte believed them that’s why they got mad),” the mayor said in a Facebook post Wednesday night (June 9).
In the original post on a Facebook page dated June 6, the caption read: “‘HINDI LANG ISANG PAMILYA ANG MAGALING’ Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto expresses his thoughts on President Rodrigo Duterte’s endorsement of his daughter, current Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio, to run for presidency in the 2022 election.”
The post has been edited thrice by the administrator of the Facebook page based on its edit history. It later removed the name of the President and his daughter.
Following this incident, the mayor called on the public to be critical as more “fake news” will surface as the national election is approaching.
“Here in Pasig, it’s just WORK MODE. Let’s not be bothered by the loud voices of those who want to make intrigues. Just in the city, we need to do so many things; this is not the time to meddle in national politics,” he said in Filipino.
Sotto said that Filipinos are very polarized.
“Here in Pasig, all political parties are welcome,” he ended.
On June 5, Malacañang named six options of Pres. Duterte on who to endorse as the next president of the country, which includes his daughter Sara.
