Russian envoy vouches for Sputnik V efficacy

CEBU CITY – Russian Ambassador to the Philippines Marat Pavlov vouched for the efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccine Sputnik V here Wednesday.

Pavlov, who graced a virtual press conference with city officials in time for the inoculation of Russian vaccine, said the city government of Cebu can expect more help from the Russian government in its vaccination drive.

The city has received 300 doses of Sputnik V which were administered to recipients belonging to the A1 to A4 categories of the government’s vaccination priority list.

Pavlov vouched for the efficacy of Sputnik V as it usage was approved by 67 countries.

He said the Russian government is willing to send more vaccines but its availability in the city will depend on vaccine czar Carlito Galvez.

“As for these 300 doses, I know that it is very small step but it is not up to the Russian Embassy because as I’ve said, the vaccination program is in the hands of vaccine czar Carlito Galvez. So, as to increase the volume of vaccines, I will ask Mr. Galvez maybe to help Cebu City in particular and to increase Sputnik doses for the Cebuanos,” said Pavlov.

The inoculation of Sputnik V was done at the University of Cebu-Senior High School Building in Barangay Sambag 1.

Dr. Jeffrey Ibones, officer-in-charge of the Cebu City Health Department, assured that those who received the first Sputnik V is already assured of second dose.
