PH records 4,777 more COVID-19 cases; death toll hits 22,000-mark

The country logged 4,777 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases on Tuesday, June 8, raising the total tally to 1,280,773, the Department of Health (DOH) said.

Of the total cases, 4.4 percent or 56,452 are active cases with 93.2 percent experiencing mild symptoms, 2.5 percent are asymptomatic, 1.3 percent are critical, 1.7 percent are in severe condition, and 1.19 percent are experiencing moderate symptoms.

“Eight duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, six are recoveries,” the DOH said.

Meanwhile, the death count jumped to 22,064 as the DOH confirmed that 95 more patients succumbed to the viral illness. The death toll represents 1.72 percent of the total COVID-19 cases in the Philippines.

“Forty cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH said.

The recovery count climbed to 1,202,257 after 7,122 more patients were cleared from the virus. The total number of recoveries accounts for 93.9 percent of the overall cases.
