The Philippines and Argentina may soon be partners in exploring useful application of artificial intelligence (AI).
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) said it has been in touch with Argentina’s Industrias Metalurgicas Pescarmona S.A. (IMPSA) to explore the benefits of AI such as in the early detection of anomalies in hydroelectric power plant equipment.
IMPSA is an Argentine firm which has expertise in renewable energy, hydropower systems, AI, and other designs of nuclear components.
In a video conference, representatives from the DOST, Department of Energy (DOE), and IMPSA tackled renewable energy development and policies, AI working methodology, neural networks and genetic algorithms and their application to the industry, AI early detection of anomalies in hydroelectric power plant equipment, and the DOST’s initiatives on AI.
In his opening remarks, DOST Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña noted that "with AI, we would be able to leverage science, technology, and innovation (STI) while strengthening collaboration in numerous ways to create the best and most relevant solutions possible against current and emerging challenges.”
He said such technologies "will eventually translate science into real benefits for the people.”
Argentine Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Augusto Cesar Granada expressed his government’s readiness to establish links with the DOST, particularly on IMPSA’s possible participation in the agency’s various projects and initiatives.
Over 600 people from the public and private sector, including representatives from the Argentine Embassy participated in the webinar.
"At the end of the session, both parties from the DOST and IMPSA remain confident that the cooperation between them will prosper and result in mutual benefits for both countries,” read the DOST statement posted on its Facebook page.
The DOST noted that IMPSA has "a century of experience in developing expertise and technology products for renewable energy power generation and nuclear power plant equipment.”
The Argentine firm is also involved in the CBK Hydro Power Generation project in Luzon. It is considered as a world exporter of hydropower equipment and exporter of wind generating equipment to Latin America.
