"We give our best to those we love. Let us also give the best for the country if we love it,"Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Manila Bishop Broderick Pabillo said in a Mass in Manila, Sunday, June 6.

"It's 11 months before elections, when we will again choose our leaders. Let us give the best people for the country," he added.

The head of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines Episcopal Commission on the Laity said the faithful may start looking into the characters of prospective candidates.

"We look into their characters. How can they be good leaders if they are boastful, foul-mouthed, liars, vengeful, and disdainful to others?" said Pabillo.

Last April, the prelate asked the faithful to start praying for good leaders in the May 2022 polls.

"It is never too early to start praying now for good leaders for next year’s elections," he said.

"Now that the election is near, let us assess our leaders. Did they take advantage of their role? Are they richer in their role?" Pabillo added.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has set the filing of the Certificate of Candidacy for the May 2022 polls this October.
