BACOLOD CITY – A barangay councilor or “kagawad” from Dauin, Negros Oriental was gunned down in Upper Maayongtubig, Dauin Thursday, June 3.

The victim was identified as kagawad Agustin Aragones of Barangay Maayongtubig.

Police Capt. Louie Batuto, Dauin police chief, said the victim was watering his plants when two men onboard a motorcycle arrived.

The suspects entered though the open gate and shot the victim at close range. Batuto said Aragones sustained bullet wounds in the face and head.

Aragones was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Batuto said they are eyeing grudges, business-related, or politics as possible angles behind the killing but he did not elaborate more about these.

Aragones was in his first term as barangay councilor, and was known for having many businesses, Batuto said.

The shooting came almost month after Barangay Bagacay, Dauin Chairman Stephen Alam was killed inside the barangay hall.
