What’s your highest score in this Wayback Wednesday game?

A classic video game is making a comeback

Whether you’re a dancefloor diva at the disco, a millennial, or even a Gen Z baby, you’re sure to have flexed your highest score on a game of snake. Guess what. It is back—and now you can play it on your smartphone, too!

How long did you last?

Back in the mid-‘70s, Gremlin developed the first game of snake under the arcade game “Blockade,” which became a huge hit. It soon inspired “Dominos” and “Surround” for Atari VCS. Years later, Taneli Armanto of Nokia created the game “Snake” in 1997, and was first released on the Nokia 6110.

Recently, youngsters and young at heart have pranced their fingers onto the “Snake” trend, as snake games are being downloaded on smartphones again.

The emergence of these apps happened way back in 2011, but it has only gained the public’s attention after more and more people have been trying to break the records on Google’s version of Snake.

Other than that, it served as a trigger to the curiosity of the younger generations on how life was back in the ‘90s where having two games on your Nokia meant you were “hightech” and having a self-rewinding cassette player was a status symbol compared to having to use a pencil or an electric fan to do it for you.

With the emergence of these throwback games, it not only gives kids a chance to get a little history lesson but also lets all of us relive memories from our days in the world of not-so-techy things.

In a time we all opt to not go out often, these games will surely keep you glued on your seats to get that highest score.
