“The religious activity was meant to implore God’s mercy for an end to the pandemic. We are looking at the spiritual impact of the penitential service. We believe that if we are truly sorry for our sins, renew our lives, and pray fervently, God will listen to our petitions,” Pabillo said over Radio Veritas.

The gathering started at the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene or Quiapo Church where more than 100 members of the clergy of the Archdiocese of Manila began their penitential walk towards Sta. Cruz Parish.

Novaliches Bishop Emeritus Teodoro Bacani said that in times of crisis, we can only depend on God. “God is the answer to all these problems. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to take refuge in mortals,” said Bishop Bacani.

Pabillo celebrated a holy mass at the Sta. Cruz Parish. Holy masses and confessional services were later held in all the parishes under the archdiocese.

The penitential walk was held on the first day of June which is observed as the Sacred Heart month. The Archdiocese of Manila has 86 parishes with more than 600 priests attending to the spiritual needs of more than three million Catholics.
