Siblings with terror links captured in Cotabato

NORTH COTABATO - Security forces captured two siblings who lead a local armed group which had links with a local terror group following a six-hour firefight in Pikit town on Sunday.

Brig. Gen. Roberto Capulon, 602nd Army Brigade commander, said brothers Montukan and Malo Bungay served as leaders of Bungay lawless armed group which is involved in a string of criminal activities including murder and extortion in Pikit town and adjacent areas.

He said the suspects also served as coddlers of the local terror group, Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters tagged as responsible for bomb attacks in Central Mindanao.

The suspects engaged the security forces in a six- hour gunfight before they were collared.

The arrested suspects yielded two M-16 Armalite rifles and a .45 caliber pistol.

Major Gen. Juvymax Uy, 6th Infantry Division commander, said the capture of the suspects bolstered the government’s peace and security campaign against the BIFF in the area following the loss of its two major local supporters.
