Lady ROF found dead in quarantine hotel in Cebu

CEBU CITY—A Returning Overseas Filipino (ROF) from Nueva Ecija was found dead while under quarantine in a hotel in Lapu-Lapu City Sunday.

The fatality was identified as Geraldine Dasalya, 41, said Police Col. Arnel Banzon, chief of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LLCPO).

It was learned that Dasalya arrived in the country from Qatar last May 21. In compliance with prevailing health protocols for incoming ROFs, she checked in in a hotel in Barangay Mactan for her 10-day quarantine.

Banzon said the woman was supposed to board her flight on her to way to Nueva Ecija after she tested negative for COVID-19 twice.

Banzon said the cause of death had yet to be determined as authorities were still awaiting the approval of the victim’s family to conduct an autopsy.

Based on reports from the city’s medical team, Dasalya vomited blood the night before she was found dead.

“We believe the death was COVID-19- related since her test results were negative. Based on initial investigations, she was also not feeling well prior to her death,” Banzon said in Cebuano.

Banzon said there were no signs of foul play in the woman’s death.

Banzon revealed that Dasalya’s female companion contacted the hotel management at 7 a.m. Sunday after her friend did not answer her calls.
