Big Crunch Digital Pte. Limited (Big Crunch Digital) wants a piece of the almost half a hundred billion peso mobile gaming action in the Philippines.
The country's mobile gaming revenues, estimated at $1.032 billion in 2021, is projected to grow to $1.522 million by 2025, driven by more than 70 million mobile phone users, 80 percent of whom play mobile games regularly.
Hence, Big Crunch Digital is developing local games to haul users over to its platform - Perya Perya (derived from the Filipino term for amusement park).
Under Perya Perya, the company is developing mobile games for Wil to Play, a soon-to-be-launched mobile game for Android.
The app, based on local celebrity Willie Revillame's TV show, fuses television and mobile game entertainment.
The TV show has around 23 million followers on social media and more on TV.
Over the short term, Big Crunch Digital targets 10 - 20 percent of this fanbase to play the mobile game.
At present, Big Crunch is working with Revillame and his station, GMA, to attract other sponsors and partners.
Wil to Play is tightly integrated with its TV show counterpart, enabling gamers to win real-world prizes, from digital gadgets to food items.
Since the quarantine still limits to the sizes of local events and gatherings in the country, it may well be the first game show allowing online fans to win prizes even if they don't get to be in the TV studio.
Game publisher Big Crunch Digital, operating for 3 years now, aspires to develop a disruptive mass-market mobile entertainment offering for southeast Asia, says Managing Director Jackie Chua.
It has worked with big gaming studios such as Microsoft's first-party studio The Coalition and Synergy 88 Digital Inc. and wants to expand to the Philippine market.
So far, "With Wil to Play and other currently-developing mobile gaming platforms, we've achieved distribution to more than 10 million users within the 2021 calendar year alone," he disclosed.
"We expect those numbers to increase exponentially in the coming years."
Wil To Play is set to open beta release this June 2021.
