"As of April we had an Election Registration Board (ERB) hearing, we have around 59 million voters registered," Comelec Commissioner Antonio Kho said during the Laging Handa briefing.

"We still have ERB hearings in July and October so we expect to reach around 60 million plus," he added.

During the 2019 polls, Kho said, there were more than 61 million voters.

"We deactivated around seven million voters due to several reasons, principally due to failure to vote twice," he said.

Kho said at present, they are intensifying their efforts to invite people to register.

"One of the things we do right now is to make it easier for our people to register. We have iRehistro...we also have satellite registration. Hopefully all these measures will increase our registration," he said.

The voter registration period for the May 2022 polls will run until Sept. 30, 2021.
