ILOILO CITY – The University of the Philippines (UP) Visayas and Hungary are eyeing academic and research partnerships.

UP Visayas officials led by Chancellor Clement Camposano had a virtual meeting with Hungarian Ambassador to the Philippines Titanilla Tóth and other officials with the Embassy of Hungary in Manila to discuss the matter.

The first virtual meeting, which was also attended by UP Visayas Vice Chancellors Philip Ian Padilla and Harold Monteclaro, provided a venue to make introductory discussions on matters related to fisheries instruction and research.

This was followed by another virtual meeting with representatives from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) for possible partnerships in the field of aquaculture and space science. Representing UP Visayas were Vice Chancellor Harold Monteclaro, College of Fisheries Dean Encarnacion Emilia Yap, and Dr. Rex Ferdinand Traifalgar, director of the Institute of Aquaculture.

The second meeting was held after DOST Secretary Fortunato de la Peña urged that the Philippines and Hungary should explore research partnerships.

Meanwhile, UP Visayas and the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences are preparing a draft of a memorandum of agreement for the proposed partnerships.
