1 hurt as fire razes 50 houses in Taguig


A fire hit a residential area in Brgy. Tanyag in Taguig on Thursday, razing about 50 houses and causing minor injury to a resident, authorities said.

According to the Taguig City Fire Station, the fire started at 12:49 a.m. from the residence of the Briones family in Purok 4.

The fire reached the third alarm at 1:33 a.m. before it was put under control at 3:58 a.m. and put out at 5:41 a.m.

It damaged about 50 houses, affecting 100 families or 200 individuals. Authorities said the fire damaged about P500,000 worth of properties.

Injured in the fire was Joseph Balansag, 46, who suffered a cut in his index finger.

A total of 57 fire trucks responded to the scene consisting of 22 from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) including those from Taguig, Pateros, Makati, Pasay, Pasig, Paranaque, Las Pinas, San Juan, and Mandaluyong, and 35 from the local government and volunteer groups.

Four ambulances also responded to the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
