Muntinlupa barangay offers 25 kilos of rice for residents to get vaccinated


A barangay in Muntinlupa is offering 25 kilos of rice to entice people to get vaccinated against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Barangay Sucat, headed by Chairman Raffy Sevilla, launched the “Bigas sa Bakuna” raffle promo on May 24 to those who will get the jab at Sucat covered court.

The weekly raffle promo will randomly choose 20 winners among those who have been inoculated. Each vaccinated individual will be given a raffle ticket with a corresponding number. Each winner will receive 25 kilos of rice as a prize.

Barangay Sucat said only those who have been scheduled and received a text message will be vaccinated on a particular day.

Meanwhile, the Muntinlupa City government has launched its home vaccination program to provide service to bedridden residents and individuals not capable of travelling to vaccination sites.

According to the Muntinlupa City Health Office (CHO), 84 individuals from Barangays Sucat, Putatan, and Tunasan were vaccinated in their homes as of May 26 and it expects to receive more requests for home vaccination in the coming days.

The CHO also launched the pilot drive-thru vaccination service to accommodate more people and decongest major vaccination sites in Muntinlupa.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi said the city government, through the CHO and in partnership with barangays, continues to expand the local vaccination program by launching the house-to-house vaccination and drive-thru services.

He said the city government is targeting to finish vaccinating 385,000 eligible residents by November to achieve herd immunity.

As of May 24, 41,443 residents have already received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, of which 15,394 got their their second dose.

For those inoculated with their first dose, 22,011 received Sinovac, 12,994 with AstraZeneca, 2,979 with Sputnik V, and 3,507 with Pfizer-BioNTech. In addition, 48 overseas Filipino workers received CoronaVac last May 1 as part of the Labor Day celebration.

The public is urged to register online with the city’s COVID-19 Vaccination Registration System via www.vaccine.muntinlupacity.gov.ph/muncovac.
