14 barangays in Central Visayas declared drug-cleared

CEBU CITY – Fourteen barangays in Region 7 (Central Visayas) have achieved drug-cleared status, the Philippine Drug Enforcement in Central Visayas (PDEA Region 7) announced.

The 14 barangays earned the status after successfully implementing their respective Barangay Drug Clearing Programs, the PDEA Region 7 said.

The drug-cleared areas are composed of 11 barangays from Cebu, two from the highly urbanized of Cebu City, and one from Bohol.

The barangays were conferred the drug-cleared status during the May 21 blended online and face-to-face deliberation by the Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing (ROCBDC) chaired by PDEA Region Director Levi S. Ortiz.

Prior to the deliberation, PDEA Region 7 and the police validated the existence of any active drug personalities in the barangays and assessed if voluntary drug surrenderers completed their prescribed intervention programs.

During the deliberation process, members of the ROCBDC, which include the DILG as vice chair, Department of Health, and the police, also scrutinized the barangays’ documentary requirements.

Representatives from the concerned barangays also answered some questions from the ROCBDC members.

The drug-cleared barangays were Canduling in Ronda, Cebu; Basak and Ginabucan in Catmon, Cebu; Panugnawan in Medellin, Cebu; Hilantagaan, Sta. Fe, Cebu; Budbud, Gunting, Hilasgasan, Sayaw, Kangdampas, and Guiwanon, Barili, Cebu; Magsaysay in Talibon, Bohol; and Sto. Niño and Sudlon Uno in Cebu City.
