In a bid to set the record straight on the raging West Philippine Sea (WPS) controversy, President Duterte invited former Senate president and Marcos era defense minister Juan Ponce Enrile to give his personal account and historical perspective on how the Philippines lost control of the area.

The 97-year-old statesman elucidated his views on the WPS, as well as the relations of the Philippines with the United States, in the Monday night, May 17, 2021, televised Talk to the People of the President.
