Car importers upbeat with dramatic recovery in April


The Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors, Inc. (AVID) recorded a 40  percent increase in sales year-to-date (YTD), from the 14,572 sold in January-April 2020 to 20,353 units in the same period this year. 

The Passenger Cars (PC) segment has shown a 16 percent increase in YTD sales with 5,328 units versus the 4,574 units sold in the same period last year. Sales of light commercial vehicle sales also went up 44 percent to 14,314 units from 9,906 units in the same January-April last year.

Sales in April this year jumped 24,322 percent versus 4,396 units from only 18 units sold in April 2020.

However, when compared sales in the previous month (April versus March), sales dipped 13 percent to 4,496 units from 5,193 units sold in March last year.

AVID President Maria Fe Perez-Agudo called the new sales figure encouraging. 

“They say you cannot emerge from challenging times untransformed. With these encouraging figures, I say we at AVID have boldly transformed ourselves and have become even better at what we do, which is to provide our customers an end-to-end mobility experience that best suits the needs of the times,” she said.
