Comelec receives over 3 million applications for voter registration


More than three million Filipinos have filed their applications for voter registration for the general elections next year, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said on Monday, May 17.

The Comelec said it received a total of 3,453,196 applications from January 2020 to May 13, 2021.

Calabarzon has the highest number of applicants with 387,482. It was followed by Central Luzon with 275,792; National Capital Region (NCR) with 272,288; Central Visayas with 225,083; and Western Visayas with 205,125.

The lowest number of applicants were recorded in Cordillera Administrative Region with 44,655; followed by Eastern Visayas with 61,359.

The number of applications are expected to increase as voter registration in the NCR Plus resumed on Monday, May 17.

"Applications may be filed at the OEOs (Office of the Election Officer) from Mondays to Fridays, or in satellite registration sites on Saturdays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.," the Comelec said.

To note, the voter registration activities were suspended in the NCR Plus area since March 29 after the government placed the area under the strictest quarantine level.
