What is a ‘Gumiho?’

We’ve heard a lot about the “Gumiho.”

It has been featured countless times in Korean films and series.

But what is it exactly?

According to legend, the Gumiho (also known sometimes as the Kumiho) is a nine-tailed fox that could transform into a beautiful woman to seduce married men.

Is it really possible?

Who knows?

In any case, the legend comes to life again via the K-drama series “My Roommate Is a Gumiho.”

With a twist.

In it, the Korean legendary creature is a man and he will fall in love with a girl several years younger than him.

Playing Shin Woo-yeo, a hundred years old Gumiho, is actor Jang Ki-yong.

Lee Hye-ri plays the role of his love interest, Lee Dam.

In the series, the two are forced to live together after Lee Dam accidentally swallowed Shin Woo-yeo’s fox beads preventing him from becoming fully human.

They would eventually fall for each other.

Also starring in “My Roommate is a Gumiho” is Kang Han Na as Yang Hye-sun and Kim Do Wan as Do Jae-jin, a good friend of Lee Dam.

“My Roommate Is a Gumiho,” premieres May 26, 9:30 pm only on iQiyi.
