DOH detects 6,739 new cases of COVID-19


The Department of Health (DOH) reported 6,739 new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) nationwide.

The additional cases pushed the country’s active cases to 56,709, the DOH said on Saturday, May 15. The active cases comprised five percent of the country’s overall caseload which is at 1,138,187.

Majority of the active cases or 93.4 percent are experiencing mild symptoms, 2.2 percent do not have symptoms, 1.4 percent are in critical condition, 1.9 percent are severe, while 1.17 percent are in moderate condition.

There were 93 more patients who died due to COVID-19, raising the Philippines’ death toll to 19,051.

The recovery tally, meanwhile, increased to 1,062,427 after 8,952 more survivors were listed by the DOH.

The Philippines is on the 25th spot among nations with the most number of COVID-19 cases worldwide, based on the coronavirus dashboard of the World Health Organization (WHO).

There have been 160,813,869 confirmed cases of COVID-19 globally, including 3,339,002 deaths, according to the WHO as of May 11.
