'Antonio & Perfecto' is an ode to Shakespearean drama set in a 'Sex and the City' world

Star-crossed lovers, revenge, and designer handbags—we're sold!

'Antonio & Perfecto'

What makes drama even better? A dose of style, of course.

This month, prepare to witness a modern retelling of one of the world's greatest love stories with The Cheese Way’s latest theatrical offering, "Antonio & Perfecto."

The play follows star-crossed lovers, Antonio and Perfecto, whose relationship is thwarted by the matriarchs of their feuding families, Samantha and Martha. With themes such as love, revenge, ambition, and designer handbags, the play is influenced by the greatest epics in literary history such as "Romeo and Juliet," "Hamlet," "Macbeth," and "Sex and the City." This ambitious crossover of worlds, mediums, and genres will move you to ask “why” in a variety of ways.

Leading the production is Cheese Mendez, the lesser half of the Theater Titas, as he pulls a Tommy Wiseau, and produces and directs his self-proclaimed magnum opus, which he penned in 2009.

Txavi Evangelista and Diego Aranda play the protagonists Antonio and Perfecto respectively, with Mikkie Bradshaw-Volante and Diandra Concepcion as their warring mothers, Samantha and Martha. Jomari Villlanueva, Luke Vicente, Terry Domondon, Patty Villacorta, Ria Manalese, Francis Lorenze Visco, and Palanca-winner Juan Ekis fill in their respective roles as witches, doctors, servants, and sexually-ambiguous friends, as is necessary in any Shakespearean romp. The play will be narrated by Tarek El Tayech and translated by Joanna Foz Castro.

The play also features original music by Greg Rodriguez and choreography by Joanna Foz Castro.

"Antonio & Perfecto" will be available to stream at 8 p.m. on May 29, 2021 via Facebook Live on The Cheese Way’s page.
