Coast Guard rescues 10 passengers from half-submerged motorbanca in Cebu


Personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) have rescued a boat captain and nine passengers from a half-submerged motorbanca off the waters of Hagutapay Wharf in Cebu.

In an incident report, the PCG said the boat captain Ronald Fabroa allowed nine passengers, including three children, to board his motorbanca on Monday, May 10.

The boat gradually sank while traveling from Barangay Daan Paz in Camotes Island to Barangay Puertobello in Tudela, Cebu.

Upon receiving a report from a concerned citizen, the PCG Station Camotes deployed a search and rescue team to look for the individuals.

The rescued boat captain and passengers were taken to the Sitio Lower Saura, Barangay Puertobello to give further medical assistance.

“Sa tulong ng mga opisyales ng Barangay Puertobello, ligtas na nakauwi ang mga pasahero sa kani-kanilang tahanan (With the help of Barangay Puertobello officials, the passengers returned safely to their respective homes),” the Coast Guard said.

Meanwhile, Fabroa was taken to the PCG Station Camotes to undergo further investigation regarding the incident.
