Manila community pantry accepts plastic bottles in exchange for groceries


This community pantry not only aims to help those in need but also promotes recycling.

Residents of Barangay 306 in Manila were urged to bring plastic bottles in exchange for grocery items at a community pantry set up by a barangay chairman to celebrate his birthday.

Barangay Chairman Joey Uy Jamisola of Barangay 306 in Manila decided to set up a community pantry in celebration of his birthday on Monday (May 10).

The residents who brought plastic bottles received one sack of rice, five eggs, four pieces of chicken portions, five sardines, vegetables, and one box of face masks.

All the collected plastic bottles will be donated to the Tzu Chi Foundation, a non-profit organization which is known for helping people in need.
