The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region XI in partnership with Yamog Renewable Energy Development Group Inc. is scheduled to open this month a hub in Davao CIty that seeks to further promote science and technology in the field of renewable energy development in Mindanao.
The launch of the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Technologies or ReSET Center will be held on May 28.
The DOST-XI said the ReSET Center is a public-private research partnership on small-scale renewable energy systems for sustainable rural development.
The center is expected to serve as a physical hub for technical support, training, and research.
It seeks to provide a venue wherein basic and advanced technical knowledge on design and fabrication, installation, replication, operation, maintenance, repair, and system trouble shooting can be done and shared, the DOST-XI added.
“The Center will serve as a workshop where grassroots technicians and other people in Mindanao could raise their skills in renewable energy to a higher level as it will provide continuous opportunities for greater learning,” DOST-XI Regional Director Dr. Anthony C. Sales said in a statement.
He assured poor communities in Mindanao that the hub will support and help sustain their renewable energy initiatives and plans.
“Eventually, communities will have a place to run to whenever they are confronted with technical problems beyond their control, or whenever they are planning to venture into like spin-off projects that will build on their initial gains,” Sales said.
The DOST-XI said the hub’s location will be at the newly refurbished Mindanao Science Centrum, now called Sentro Mindanaw in Mintal, Davao City.
"With its development integrators composed of engineers and capacity building specialists, the ReSET Center would effectively and efficiently respond to problems and anticipated needs of renewable energy-driven communities,” it said.
