PAGASA: ITCZ could bring rain showers, thunderstorms over parts of Mindanao

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Thursday, May 6, said the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) will affect the southern portion of Mindanao while the easterlies will prevail over the rest of the country.

PAGASA said the ITCZ, or the region where the trade winds from the northern and southern hemispheres converge, may bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Davao and Soccsksargen regions in Mindanao.

The state weather bureau warned residents of possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to at times heavy rains.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country may have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to the easterlies and localized thunderstorms.

Weather specialist Benison Estareja said temperature of as high as 36 degrees Celsius may be felt in Zamboanga and Tuguegarao.

On the other hand, Estareja said that temperature in Metro Manila could reach up to 35 degrees Celsius, while a heat index of as high as 40 degrees Celsius may be felt in the region.
